I am an independent education consultant specialising in school inspection, training and quality assurance. I have a degree and PhD, qualifying as a teacher in 1974.

I have 26 years of teaching experience in primary and secondary schools. I taught in schools in England in a range of settings from large inner city secondary schools to rural primary schools. I was a primary school headteacher for 12 years before joining Ofsted as one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors.

In seven years at Ofsted, I contributed substantially to the design, refinement and operation of school inspection. I lead numerous inspections as well as specialist surveys of schools and teacher training institutions. I have substantial experience of training school inspectors and senior teachers responsible for school improvement.

My specialist subject areas are science, mathematics, music and the education of very young children. I have also conducted school inspections in England, South Africa, USA and the Netherlands.

Over the last four years working for Cambridge Education in the USA, I have lead school inspections (including Charter Schools), in New York City, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Sacramento, Minneapolis, Michegan and California. I have lead district inspections in Connecticut and professional development sessions with principals and district staff on effective classroom observation and planning for improvement. I have regularly been used for ‘shadowing’ experience as part of capacity building within New York, Connecticut and Sacramento. I am part of major training projects for District and school leaders in New Haven and Bridgeport in Connecticut and in Tampa in Florida. I have also delivered professional development programs for schools leaders in, North Carolina and Michigan.
